Neither seemed to me ideal for elk, though Wyoming outfitter Les Bowman and the Remington company promoted the round masterfully. WebMay 23, 2024 · This gun is the least pickiest gun I have, most factory loads shoot into an inch or less. The bolt is Tikka smooth. I will say the trigger isn't quite where I'd like it, but its more than serviceable with an aftermarket spring... also, Timney is making an aftermarket trigger for them now as well.

WebDec 24, 2010 · 7mm-08 is an awesome caliber IMO. I can see how it did not make the list when you talk about one caliber to handle all types of game and terrain. However, for Deer sized game or even elk, the 7mm-08 is a great caliber which can be shot out to 400 yards without hesitation. As a familiar benchmark to compare against, the 30-06 with a 180-grain bullet punches with about 28.6 f-p at 16.2 fps. Obviously the 7mm-08 is going to punch harder than the 243.
