People commonly just use 3/4, and tighten the core side extra tight. I've been doing this for 20 years, and have never had a leak. Some will use 5/8. However, some users here will use both 3/4 and 5/8" hose, with an adapter in the middle. Then replace thermostat, housing gasket, coolant, etc. Let engine warm back up with heater on. Flushes entire system and makes sure the heater core gets cleaned and new coolant. Its a 2-fer. M.
