WebHighley Colliery was once at the heart of the rich Shropshire coalfields. The pit closed in 1969 but the village still has pride in its mining heritage. This is reflected in the Discovery Trail, a specially commissioned series of artworks which leads visitors from the Severn Valley Railway to the village centre.
