Females attain total lengths up to 1 m (3.3 ft) in the southern portion of their range, but may reach 1.4 m (4.6 ft) in northern rivers. Shortnose Sturgeon can weigh up to 24 kg (52.8 lbs). Males are somewhat smaller than females.
